What each disposition means

Last updated on Sep 29, 2026

A disposition is the outcome you record after a call. It is the most consequential thing a rep does in the product: it drives your reports, your automation rules, your Do Not Call list, and what gets written back to your CRM.

The same guide is available in the app at Custom Dispositions → View disposition guide.

No conversation yet

Synced to your CRM as an attempted contact. The contact stays in the queue.

Disposition Meaning
Not Disposed Default state before any outcome is recorded. The dialer queues contacts in this state first.
No Answer The call rang out. Nobody picked up and no voicemail was reached.
Busy The line was busy.
Left Voicemail Reached voicemail and left a message.
Answering Machine Reached voicemail or a machine and did not leave a message.
Gatekeeper Spoke to a receptionist or assistant but did not reach the decision maker.
Not Available The contact was reached or confirmed but cannot talk right now. Try again later.

Spoke with the contact

Positive, Sold and Meeting Booked sync as connected. Neutral and Presented No Sale sync as in progress.

Disposition Meaning
Positive Had a conversation and it went well. Worth following up.
Neutral Had a conversation with no clear lean either way.
Negative Had a conversation and the contact leaned against.
Not Interested The contact explicitly declined.
Presented No Sale Delivered the full pitch but the contact did not buy.
Meeting Booked An appointment or demo was scheduled.
No Show A booked meeting was missed by the contact.
Sold The deal closed.

Number problems

Synced as unqualified. Fix or remove the number before dialing again.

Disposition Meaning
Wrong Number The number connects to someone other than the contact.
Bad Number The number is invalid or cannot be dialed.
Not In Service The carrier reports the line as disconnected.

Compliance

Synced as unqualified. The number is also added to your organisation's Do Not Call list so it is never dialed again.

Disposition Meaning
Do Not Call The contact asked not to be called.

Do Not Call is not reversible from the dialer. It is the one disposition that changes your organisation's data permanently, and that is the point — use it every time someone asks, and never as a shortcut for "not interested".

How dispositions hide contacts

Contacts marked Bad Number, No Answer, Negative, Not In Service or Do Not Call are hidden from the contacts view and from dial batches unless you explicitly select that disposition in the Disposition filter. That is why a freshly filtered list shows fewer dialable contacts than the import had. See Filter who gets dialed.

Picking the right one

  • Somebody answered and said "no" → Not Interested, not Negative. Negative is for tone; Not Interested is for a decision.
  • Somebody said "take me off your list" → Do Not Call. Always.
  • You got their assistant → Gatekeeper, not No Answer. Otherwise your reports will tell you nobody picks up, when in fact you are not getting past reception — a completely different problem.
  • The number rang out → No Answer, not Answering Machine. Answering Machine means you reached one.

If your team needs finer labels than these, do not stretch the meanings — create custom dispositions instead.
